Dear Reader,
In the height of summer, the EU turned up the heat even further for Europe’s food and beverage industry with the entry into force, on 12 August, of the much-discussed PPWR – the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. Not that the Regulation has not been debated and commented on extensively until now, but the focus has shifted to implementation and putting its requirements into practice over the years to come. That is why, in this issue, we are presenting some of the key deadlines set for the phased implementation of the provisions laid down in the Regulation.
We are also pleased that there is hardly an issue of Food Processing Industry Magazine in which we have not devoted space to packaging – a field that is of crucial importance to the success of every food and beverage producer in today’s global market.
This is why, for the eighteenth time, we are organising our “Priz Pak” competition for the best packaging. We hope that everyone with something new and innovative to showcase – whether a new technology, new packaging materials, a new type of packaging or an interesting design – will take part.
Also in the context of the PPWR, this year we will once again hold the National Scientific and Practical Conference “Trends in Food and Beverage Packaging – Technologies, Materials, Environment and Legislation”. It will provide an opportunity to learn from leading experts about the latest developments related to the Regulation, as well as other important aspects of current trends in food and beverage packaging.
And all of this will be combined with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Food Processing Industry magazine! Save the date – 29 October 2026 – and join us for the events we are preparing.
