Important priority for Bulgaria in the CAP reform
The coupled support for specific sectors was an important priority for Bulgaria in the 2014-2020 Common Agricultural Policy reform. Our country achieved its priorities for increasing the coupled support by negotiating 13% coupled support, oriented to sensitive and important sectors for us such as stock-breeding, fruit-growing and vegetable-growing. This statement was made by agriculture and food minister Prof. Dimitar Grekov during the opening of the seminar on the subject: “Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union for the Period 2014-2020 – Priorities, Novelties and Challenges”, which was held at the Inter Expo Center. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Association of Agricultural Producers.
Within the context of the reform, our country achieved also its majour priority for applying a simplified system of direct payments, pointed further the minister. It is important for the Bulgarian farmers to have stable direct payments from the EU, which will complement their income and give them economic security, said minister Grekov.
He recalled that our country had the right to apply an area-based support scheme without introducing payment entitlements until 2020. This will make unnecessary the need for the agricultural producers to adapt to a new and more complex system, and will substantially reduce administrative costs.
